A British military aerial navigation manual, written by a Royal Navy officer, and published in 1919 for the use of RAF and Naval pilots and airmen. Illustrated with diagrams and charts, this is a detailed manual covering the theory and practice of aerial navigation from a military standpoint. It was published just after the First World War and incorporated the methods used by the staff and flying instructors at the Royal Naval College during the war. Subjects covered in the book include: the use of the compass, taking bearings, the effects of wind and weather, joining up with a squadron, scouting, magnetism in an aeroplane, estimating position, course and distance calculators, and how to intercept hostile aircraft. With two large folding charts in a pocket at the rear of the book, and conversion tables, including a diagram of the 'Mackenzie Aero Deviation Card', on the front endpapers.
Condition:
In good condition, the boards are in good condition, with general signs of use, some fading and some marks. The binding and hinges are very good and secure. The text is in very good condition, with a few marks to the endpapers. The illustrations and folding charts are in very good condition.
