Vintage Francis Barker Prismatic Compass

Vintage Francis Barker Prismatic Compass

Price ¥0 Sale

An excellent example of a Francis Barker prismatic educational compass, dating from around the 1980's. In its original box, the compass is in near mint condition and does not appear to have been used. With a jewelled pivot, screw-down transit lock, manual brake, height adjustable prism, folding sight, aluminium case, and aluminium compass card. Educational compasses were first produced by Barker in the late 19th century. This compass is similar to the early versions, with the major differences being that the 19th century ones had a paper compass card rather than the aluminium card found in this model, and a wooden case. Details of Barker's educational compasses can be found in Paul Crespel's excellent book Trade mark London, (p.88)

Condition:

In excellent, near mint condition and full working order. The transit lock works perfectly, the glass is unmarked and the aluminium case is in exellent condition. The original cardboard box is in good condition.
