The Interpretation of Air Photographs 1942. First produced in 1942, this edition was published in October 1943. It was a restricted document, marked 'Not To Be Published', and intended for the use of the Infantry, Royal Armoured Corps, Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers, Military Intelligence and various training and O.C.T.U. units. The manual is a comprehensive and very useful guide to all aspects of aerial photographic interpretation, covering the various types of aerial photographs, the interpretation of RAF reconnaissance photographs, the equipment used to interpret images, the identification of enemy vehicles, strongpoints, fortifications, weapons, and battlefield deployment. The manual is very well illustrated with diagrams and numerous photographic plates, including photographs of enemy positions, industrial areas, vehicles, shipping, weapons, bombing damage, ant-aircraft batteries, airfields, invasion barges and even the concentration camp at Dachau.
Condition: In very good condition. The card cover is in good condition with minor signs of wear. The pages are securely held in place by the original lace fastening. The text is in good condition, with some age toning. Originally there would have been 138 plates, but eight have been removed (No. 3-8, and No. 62-3). All the other 130 photographic plates are in very good condition.
