H.M.S.O., 1915

Printed by HARRISON & SONS, London, 1915

A rare, original War Office aircraft recognition manual, produced for the use of the Royal Flying Corps and British Army in July 1915. It is well illustrated with line drawings and includes aircraft recognition details of allied and German aircraft, showing insignia, markings, and views of the aircraft from different angles. Many of the best-known military aircraft of the time are included: the Avro 504k, B.E.2., Bristol Scout, Morane Parasol (memorably flown by Cecil Lewis over the Somme), Martinsyde Scout, Maurice Farman, and Vickers fighter; as well as the German Aviatik, Fokker, D.F.W, L.V.G and Rumpler biplanes. There is also a coloured plate showing the insignia of the allied and German air forces.

Condition:

In good condition. The card cover shows general signs of age and wear, some marks, and creased corners. The stapled binding is secure - the staples were rusty and one has been replaced. There are some rust marks near the staples on a few pages. The text and illustrations are in good condition, with a few marks.
